Have you read any of the books from my list of favorites? If so, which one and what did you think of it? (Would you read it again or recommend it?)

What is your Favorite Book?

To Blog or Not to Blog

I have gone round and round on whether or not I should let my own daughters use email, mySpace, blogs, twitter, etc. I am so worried about all of the cyberbulling and stalking going on. If you have kids what do you think? I know - supervision is the key. But what about the old fashioned way of talking face to face? I have seen people email stuff that they would never say to your face because they can't deal with the face to face reaction. I have heard adults and kids put stuff on facebook/myspace that got them in big trouble. What to do?

I do know that I want my students to be able to blog about what they are reading instead of just write it in a journal that they may get a response from their teacher in, but not a friend. I know this would get more of my students to enjoy writing about reading. Is this a double standard? I want to know.

Cool movies that inspire writing

With grave misgivings, I took my girls to see the movie "Shorts". At first I wasn't sure I'd lik it. But then I realized that it was produced/directed the way kids think - in a serious of short stories. Their idea of telling a story from beginning to end does not equal an adults. It was hillarious! My 7 year old even figured out the awesome moral. And if you run out of writing ideas... how about this sentence starter: Oh my gosh, my booger I just flicked off my finger is coming after me...

Now check out the link.

Welcome to our Classroom!

We have finished creating a community of readers and writers and are learning how to use our reading strategies to go "deeper into our text." This week we also proved ourselves as readers and writers on Aurora's District Assessments. Whew, aren't we glad that is done? NOW, we can have some real fun!
